25 to Life is a third-person shooter developed by Avalanche Software and released in 2006 for Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC. Set in open urban environments drawing comparisons to the Grand Theft Auto series, the game presents a conflict between law enforcement and street gangs from both sides. Players can take on the role of a police officer, who has access to trained firearm use and helicopter support, or a gang member, who commands a broader weapons arsenal and can use civilian hostages as shields. A single-player campaign, written by author and television producer P. Frank Williams, follows a character navigating trouble on both sides of the law. Multiplayer was a central focus, offering team deathmatch-oriented modes with character customization options including tattoos and branded clothing. The soundtrack features contributions from rap artists including Mos Def, DMX, and Ghostface Killah.
