A-Train is a railroad management simulator developed by Artdink, originally released in 1990 for platforms including the PC-9800 Series, Sharp X68000, FM Towns, and DOS, with later ports to Windows, Mac, and Wii. The player assumes control of a railroad company with the dual objective of building a profitable transit network and stimulating urban growth. Passenger services form the primary source of income, with trains scheduled around peak demand periods to maximize revenue. Alongside commuter operations, freight trains must transport construction resources to support the expansion of housing and commercial buildings, which in turn grows the passenger base. As cities develop across several distinct selectable maps, new landmarks such as stadiums, high-rise offices, and ski resorts emerge organically. Players can also establish their own businesses, whose performance is influenced by local population density, seasonal variation, and competition from nearby enterprises.
