Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery is a real-time strategy and simulation game developed by Keen Games and released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS. Players establish and grow a colonial empire by constructing settlements, managing economies, conducting diplomacy, and engaging in combat across multiple regions of the globe. The game incorporates encounters with Orient civilizations, allowing players to adopt new technologies and cultural elements from that region. A harbor-building system enables the creation of coastal cities, while roads, walls, and castles let players shape individual settlements. The interface is configurable to suit different skill levels, and the game includes both a structured campaign for newcomers and an open-ended sandbox mode for experienced players. Progress is tracked through a captain's log that records earned titles, medals, and talents. Built-in creation tools allow players to design and share custom scenarios within the game's world.
