Developed by Action Square and released in 2021, Anvil is a top-down sci-fi roguelike action shooter available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Players take on the role of Vault Breakers — heavily combat-optimized operatives working for ANVIL, an agency that hunts down the remnants of ancient alien civilizations scattered across the universe. Each run sends Breakers through procedurally assembled galaxies composed of random planets and distinct boss monsters, with the goal of locating and opening Vaults to claim the powers within. Over 100 randomly generated artifacts and a broad selection of weapons ensure that each session plays out differently, encouraging experimentation with synergies between builds. Death is not permanent in the traditional sense; destroyed Breakers are rebuilt, carrying forward experience that strengthens them for subsequent runs. The game supports multiplayer co-op, and an Operator companion provides contextual information throughout each expedition.
