Armored Core 4 is a mech action game developed by FromSoftware, released in 2006 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Marking the franchise's tenth anniversary, it represented the series' first entry on seventh-generation hardware, bringing with it updated visuals and gameplay performance. Players pilot customizable armored combat units through an all-new storyline set across redesigned environments. The shift to next-generation platforms allowed FromSoftware to push both the graphical fidelity and mechanical depth of the series further than previous installments. The game also introduced online multiplayer capability, expanding on the competitive elements that had been a hallmark of the long-running franchise. As one of the earlier titles available on its target platforms, Armored Core 4 served as both a continuation of an established series and a technical showcase for what the hardware could deliver in the mech combat genre.
