Army Men: Sarge's War is a third-person shooter released in 2004 by Global Star Software for Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and PC. Originally in development at series creator The 3DO Company, the project was acquired and finished by Global Star following 3DO's bankruptcy. The game follows Sarge, the recurring protagonist of the Army Men franchise, but departs sharply from the tone of earlier entries. Where previous titles leaned on humor and the novelty of plastic toy soldiers, this installment adopts a darker, more serious approach — soldiers sustain visible damage, weapons are rendered in metal rather than plastic, and Sarge's characteristic comedic behavior is absent. The shift marks a notable tonal change within the long-running series, presenting combat in a grittier register while retaining the franchise's core third-person action gameplay.
