Released in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Asura's Wrath is a hack-and-slash title developed by CyberConnect2 in which players control Asura, a demigod driven by vengeance against the pantheon of fellow demigods who betrayed him. The game's structure imitates an episodic animated series, complete with opening and closing credits, blending third-person combat with heavy cinematic presentation and quick-time event sequences woven directly into the action. This approach led many critics to describe it as an interactive anime. The game's thematic and mythological foundations draw on Hindu and Buddhist traditions — the protagonist's name references the combative, glory-seeking beings found in both cosmologies — while simultaneously incorporating science fiction elements. Producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya cited this fusion of ancient religious mythology and sci-fi as central to the game's identity.
