Ballblazer is a futuristic sports game developed by Lucasfilm Games, originally released in 1985 across a wide range of platforms including the Atari 8-bit family, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Apple II, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and MSX. Created principally by programmer David Levine, the game casts players in a one-on-one contest played on a scrolling grid, where each competitor pilots a craft called a rotofoil and attempts to shoot a sphere called the plasmorb through the opponent's goal. The split-screen perspective gives each player a distinct first-person view of the arena, a technically notable achievement for the era. Matches are fast-paced and arcade-oriented, emphasizing spatial awareness and quick maneuvering over complex strategy. The game gained enough recognition to spawn a follow-up, Masterblazer, released by LucasArts in 1990, and a later remake, Ballblazer Champions, in 1997.
