Baroque is a post-apocalyptic dungeon-crawling action-RPG developed by Sting, originally released in 2007 and later brought to PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and iOS. Set in a world ravaged by a catastrophic heat wave, the game follows an amnesiac survivor navigating demon-infested ruins and a looming structure called the Nerve Tower, said to hold answers about the apocalypse. Gameplay centers on descending through the tower floor by floor, defeating monsters, and accumulating experience and items, with occasional excursions outside to obtain weapons and equipment from NPCs. This remake represents a significant overhaul of the original: character and enemy visuals moved from 2D sprites to a fully polygonal engine, the perspective shifted from first-person to third-person, and the combat was reworked into a more action-oriented style. Additional floors, items, and creatures were also introduced, expanding on the content of the original release.
You awaken to find the world in ruin, your heart beset with unexplained guilt. A cataclysm has destroyed the cities and empires of men and disfigured the spirit of humanity. In this nightmare, it falls to you to descend a mysterious tower in search of absolution. Battle merciless foes in treacherous dungeons, scour for new items to aid you in your travels, and unlock the secrets of a devastated land. You will find death in the depths, yet learn that death is not the end of the story; in the twisted world of Baroque, it is only the beginning.
