Battlezone is a first-person tank combat arcade game developed by Atari and released in November 1980, with ports following across numerous home platforms including the Apple II, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Atari 8-bit computers, DOS, and the Atari ST. The original arcade cabinet renders its battlefield using vector graphics on a monochrome monitor fitted with a green and red color overlay, producing a distinctive wireframe visual style that set it apart from raster-based contemporaries. Players pilot a tank through an open arena, engaging enemy vehicles from a cockpit perspective. The combination of its novel first-person viewpoint and clean geometric presentation made it a sustained presence in arcades throughout the early 1980s. Home conversions were generally published under Atari's Atiarisoft label, and the Atari ST version notably emulates portions of the original 6502 processor code in real time to replicate arcade behavior.
