Besieger is a real-time strategy game developed by Primal Software and released in 2004 for PC. The game offers three distinct single-player campaigns, each centered on a different faction. Players can take up the cause of the Vikings in a quest to recover Thor's hammer, wage war as the Cimmerians, or follow the story of the returning figure Korin. Each campaign provides a separate narrative thread, giving the title considerable variety in its single-player offerings. The core gameplay follows conventions established by the real-time strategy genre, tasking players with managing forces and conducting military operations across the campaign scenarios. With its grounding in historical and mythological settings spanning Norse and Cimmerian cultures, Besieger draws on a range of source material to distinguish its three playable factions from one another.
When Korin, rightful king of the Cimmerians sets on a quest to find a fabled magic sword, his sister Mara sees her chance and seizes power with her dark magic. Vikings that live nearby hear of this and fear an attack. Therefore they send out some warriors on a quest to find Thor's hammer. They set out on a flying ship, only to be shot down and see Mara's forces destroy their capital.
