Minerva's Den is a standalone downloadable campaign for BioShock 2, developed by 2K Marin and released in 2010 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. Players take on the role of an Alpha Series Big Daddy exploring a previously unseen district of Rapture — a high-technology hub built around the Thinker, a supercomputer that oversees much of the city's automated infrastructure. The central narrative unravels the history of the Thinker's creator, Charles Milton Porter, and the secrets concealed within the machine itself. Combat incorporates tools unique to this expansion, including the Ion Laser weapon and the Gravity Well Plasmid, while a new enemy type, the Lancer Big Daddy, serves as the most formidable Protector Rapture ever developed. Objectives and areas can be approached in a flexible order, and the campaign functions as a self-contained story independent of the main BioShock 2 narrative.
The player assumes the role of Subject Sigma, another Alpha Series Big Daddy, as he travels through Minerva's Den, home to Rapture's Central Computing.
