Black Rock Shooter: The Game is an action role-playing game developed by Imageepoch for the PlayStation Portable, released in 2011 and based on Huke's Black Rock Shooter franchise. Players control the titular character across a series of missions, exploring an overworld to gather items and advance objectives. Combat is triggered by contact with enemies and centers on wielding a rock cannon to fire at opponents, block incoming attacks, or sidestep out of harm's way. Overusing the cannon or the dodge mechanic in rapid succession causes the system to overheat, temporarily leaving the protagonist defenseless. As the game progresses, players unlock equippable abilities — including a powerful blast, a sniper rifle, and stat-boosting support skills — each governed by individual cooldown timers. Certain missions shift into motorcycle sequences where the character can strike enemies on either flank or fire weapons directly ahead.
In the year 2032, Earth suffers from a sudden invasion by alien forces. Nineteen years passed after that event, and with chaos ruling the globe, the only way to rescue the world from utter destruction is to survive and fight against those who force Earth into complete annihilation. The main character of the game, Black★Rock Shooter (portrayed in the game as a "living weapon" designated with the name BRS), is entrusted with the responsibility to protect mankind, possessing the ability to fight against the invaders as the ultimate weapon. She emerges from the ruins of San Francisco and witnesses an amassing of surviving troops which becomes her support throughout her mission.
