Book of Demons is a hack-and-slash RPG developed by Thing Trunk, released in 2018 for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Set in the Paperverse — a world existing within a pop-up book — the game follows a campaign to defeat an Archdemon lurking beneath an Old Cathedral, drawing clear inspiration from the atmosphere of early Diablo. Rather than traditional weapons, players wield cards representing items, spells, and skills, adapting their hand to combat situations across procedurally generated dungeons. Cards can be upgraded with runes and come in numerous variants, including rare Legendaries. A key feature is the Flexiscope engine, which allows sessions to be divided into any length and learns a player's pace to estimate completion times. Beyond the main campaign, a Roguelike mode introduces permadeath and restricted healing for added difficulty. Book of Demons is the first entry in Thing Trunk's Return 2 Games series.
