Released in 2012 by Triptych Games, Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty is the first downloadable content expansion for Borderlands 2, a shooter RPG available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux. The expansion sends Vault Hunters to Oasis, a region of Pandora that was once a seaside resort but has since decayed into a desolate wasteland bordering a vast desert. There, players encounter the eccentric, Hunter S. Thompson-inspired proprietor of the ruined settlement, whose companions have met an unfortunate fate. As the story unfolds, a new faction of enemies emerges: sand pirates who patrol the desert expanse. One of these factions is commanded by Captain Scarlett, the DLC's central antagonist and namesake, whose presence drives the central conflict of this pirate-themed expansion to the base game.
