Bound is a 3D platformer developed by Plastic and released in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. The game is oriented around narrative experience, presenting a mature story intended for players primarily interested in the storytelling dimension of games. At the same time, it incorporates a large-scale puzzle designed to challenge dedicated players, with a difficulty level conceived to require collective problem-solving across a community rather than individual effort alone. This dual focus positions Bound as a title that bridges contemplative, story-driven play and cooperative challenge, making it an unusual entry within the platformer and adventure genres. The PlayStation VR support extends the experience for players on that platform.
The game takes place inside the mind of a woman who is revisiting her childhood memories. In the game's world, the main character is a princess who is following the orders of her mother, the Queen, to vanquish a monster that is destroying the world. According to the game's creative director, "everything in the game is a big metaphor", and there are scenes in the game that show real life, and not the game's world.
