Brute Force is a squad-based third-person tactical shooter developed by Digital Anvil and released exclusively for Xbox in 2003. Set in a science-fiction universe where humanity has expanded across the galaxy, the game follows a four-member special operations unit called Brute Force as it confronts a hostile alien threat. Players manage and switch between the four squad members during combat, with each character bringing distinct strengths and limitations to the battlefield. This differentiation in abilities encourages players to consider which operative is best suited to a given situation, adding a layer of tactical decision-making to the action. The premise draws on familiar military science-fiction conventions — interstellar colonization, escalating alien conflict, and elite soldiers deployed to handle threats conventional forces cannot — framing the squad combat across a series of increasingly demanding engagements throughout the campaign.
The Confederation knows you're the best at what you do. That's why you and three others have been been chosen for an elite squadron. Sniper, Assault Trooper, Scout, Alien Warrior. Alone, each of you is deadly. United. You are an unstoppable war machine. Welcome to the newly commissioned 23rd Special Forces Unit. Code Name: Brute Force.
