Chessmaster, developed by Ubi Soft Studios SRL and released in 2003 for Xbox and PlayStation 2, is a strategy and board game title based on the long-running Chessmaster series. Broadly drawing from Chessmaster 9000 on PC, this console iteration offers several gameplay modes including Quick Game, Rated Play, Handicap, Setup Position, and Puzzle challenges. A dedicated Chess School section, developed around Bruce Pandolfini's tutorials, covers both fundamental and advanced tactics, supplemented by hints and analysis tools for training sessions. Rated play adjusts a player's ranking after each match, while the Chessmaster Championships mode features AI opponents whose ratings shift dynamically as they compete against one another. An online multiplayer mode is also present. A notable addition is a fantasy-themed mode pitting orcs against humans across 3D environments — a forest, a castle, and a desert — with animated pieces replacing the traditional set.
