Close Combat: First to Fight is a team-based first-person shooter developed by Destineer in collaboration with the United States Marine Corps and Atomic Games, released in 2005 for Xbox, PC, and Mac. The game originated as an actual Marine Corps training simulation, developed with input from active-duty Marines with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. Players command a four-man Marine fire team through urban combat scenarios set in a fictional Middle Eastern environment. The military origins lend the game an emphasis on realistic tactics and squad coordination, distinguishing it from more conventional shooters of the era. As the fire team leader, the player must navigate the dangers of close-quarters urban warfare while managing the capabilities of their unit. The transition from professional training tool to commercial release gives the title an unusual pedigree rooted in genuine military doctrine and modern combat conditions.
