Combat Mission: Shock Force is a tactical ground combat simulator developed for PC and released in 2007, the fourth entry in the Combat Mission series and the first to move beyond a World War II setting. The game takes place in a near-future Syria, where players command U.S. forces in battalion-scale combined arms operations. Each battle opens with a mission briefing and a setup phase, during which units can be positioned across the battlefield before action begins. The game supports both real-time and turn-based play. In turn-based mode, each 60-second action phase follows a command phase and concludes with a replayable sequence. Victory conditions span terrain control, unit-based objectives, and force-wide metrics such as casualties and ammunition levels. Two campaigns are included: a training-focused mode set at Yakima Training Center and Task Force Thunder, a semi-dynamic campaign in which outcomes carry forward between battles. Additional options include randomly generated Quick Battles and two-player multiplayer via LAN, internet, hotseat, or email.
