Released in 2014 by Relic Entertainment for PC, Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies is a standalone multiplayer expansion to Company of Heroes 2, shifting the theater of war from the Eastern Front back to the Western Front of World War II. The release introduces two new factions — the US Forces and the German Oberkommando West — each with distinct playstyles and mechanics that meaningfully alter the dynamics of competitive multiplayer matches. Set during some of the most intense fighting of the conflict, the game focuses entirely on head-to-head and team-based real-time strategy combat, with no single-player campaign component. Players who already own the base game can use these new factions alongside existing ones, while those without it can access Western Front Armies as an independent entry point into the series' multiplayer ecosystem.
