Creature Shock is a first-person shooter developed by Interactive Studios and released in 1994 for DOS, Philips CD-i, 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, Sega Saturn, and PlayStation. Set against a backdrop of overpopulation, the game follows a rescue crew dispatched to investigate the disappearance of the spaceship Amazon, which had been exploring Saturn and Jupiter as potential sites for human colonization before going silent. Gameplay incorporates Full Motion Video alongside arcade-style mechanics, tasking players with fending off waves of varied alien enemies across asteroid surfaces and underground passageways. Each enemy type carries a specific weak point that can be targeted for greater effectiveness. The game also includes two distinct three-dimensional segments in which players pilot the ship directly, offering a change of pace from the standard on-foot combat. The combination of FMV presentation and action-oriented shooting places it within the wave of cinematic CD-format titles that characterized the mid-1990s.
In 2123, the UNS Amazon is sent as part of an exploration fleet to various planets to determine new viable locations for settlement as the Earth is destroyed by human activity. En route to Saturn, the Amazon is ensnared by a massive alien being resembling a large asteroid. The protagonist, Commander Jason Barr, is sent to investigate the incident.
