Crimson Sea is an action game developed by Koei and released for Xbox in 2002, blending shooter and hack-and-slash gameplay in a far-future science fiction setting. Set thousands of years ahead in the galaxy Theophilus, the game follows a character named Sho investigating a string of mass killings carried out by an alien invasion force. Combat involves battling large waves of enemies using customizable blaster rifles and plasma swords, with an additional ability system called Neo-Psionics that allows players to unleash powerful attacks against groups of foes at once. A mechanic called the Phantom Sensor System incorporates sound and touch to detect concealed enemies, adding a layer of awareness to encounters. The enemies themselves include alien creatures and entities capable of liquid-based transformations, contributing to the variety of combat situations players face across the adventure.
