Crisis Zone is an arcade light gun shooter developed and published by Namco in 1999 as a spin-off of the Time Crisis series. Unlike its parent franchise, which uses a standard handgun controller, Crisis Zone equips players with a large machine gun-style peripheral, giving the game a distinctly heavier, more sustained-fire feel. Players engage enemies across fast-paced combat scenarios typical of the genre. The cabinet was a dedicated arcade release, and the game later received a PlayStation 2 port in 2004, that version featuring compatibility with the Guncon 2 light gun accessory. The shift from pistol to machine gun controller distinguishes Crisis Zone from other entries in the Time Crisis lineage and defines much of its identity as a stand-alone experience within the series.
In August 2000, Garland Square opened on the outskirts of London, with a large department store, office buildings, and a park next to each other. However, on October 16, two months after opening, it was occupied by the anti-British terrorist organization "URDA" led by Derrick Lynch. To suppress terrorism, the British government has dispatched a special anti-terrorism unit, the STF, to the area.
