Dance Central is a music rhythm game developed by Harmonix Music Systems, released in 2010 exclusively for Xbox 360 as a launch title for the Kinect peripheral. Using Kinect's full-body motion tracking, players perform actual dance routines rather than manipulating a traditional controller. The game includes two primary modes: Break It Down, which functions as a rehearsal space for learning choreography, and Perform It, where players execute routines on a virtual stage. Over 600 individual moves and more than 90 complete routines are featured, all designed by professional choreographers. The soundtrack draws from pop, hip-hop, and R&B genres, with artists such as Lady Gaga, No Doubt, M.I.A., and Bell Biv DeVoe among those represented. The game supports social play, allowing friends and family to participate together through the shared physical nature of the Kinect-based input.
