Released in 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Dead Island: Ryder White is a single-player expansion for Techland's action survival horror game Dead Island. Rather than continuing the main campaign's storyline, it reframes the events of the base game from the perspective of Ryder White, a colonel commanding the Banoi Island Defence Force who serves as an antagonist in the original. Blending shooter and melee combat in the style of the parent game, the expansion follows White as he attempts to manage the zombie outbreak on Banoi while simultaneously searching for a cure for his wife Emily, who has been infected. The campaign offers several hours of gameplay and introduces two new weapon blueprints not found in the base game. The expansion provides no additional multiplayer content, functioning entirely as a self-contained narrative supplement to the original release.
