Dead or School is an action RPG developed by Studio Nanafushi, released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Set in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo overrun by zombies, the game follows Hisako, a young woman who grew up in underground shelters after the surface world fell to the undead. Inspired by her grandmother's stories about school life, she boards a subway train to the surface, determined to reach a place where young people once played and learned. Gameplay blends hack-and-slash combat with deep character progression. Players collect gear, disassemble weapons for parts, and mix components to build customized loadouts with varying attack stats, weight, and rare effects. Skills gained through leveling up can be combined to enable more dynamic combat options. Hisako's clothing sustains damage during battle, which affects her status parameters. Recognizable Tokyo districts — including Shinjuku, Asakusa, Akihabara, and Roppongi — serve as distinct stages populated by zombies and large boss enemies.
