Frank Rising is a 2017 adventure game developed as a standalone addition to the Dead Rising 4 universe, available on PC and Xbox One. Players control Frank West, a photojournalist who has recently been infected and must search for a cure before time runs out. As the story progresses, Frank discovers that his infected state has begun to evolve in unexpected ways, while the mutated Evos around him are growing increasingly intelligent and dangerous. The narrative layers additional threats through Obscuris, a paramilitary organization with plans to destroy the city entirely, and through the unreliability of other survivors Frank encounters along the way. The expansion weaves together its personal survival story with broader conspiratorial stakes, placing Frank at the center of a deteriorating situation where enemies, allies, and his own changing biology all pose distinct and escalating dangers.
