Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess is a tactical role-playing game developed by Koei Tecmo Games, released in 2015 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. An expanded entry in the Deception series, it introduces Valgyrie, a new playable character whose combat options extend beyond trap placement to include direct physical attacks — she can kick enemies into traps or stomp on downed foes to deal additional damage. The central mode, Quest Mode, presents 100 new quests through which players progress as Valgyrie, gradually unlocking new traps and abilities. A second major component, Deception Studio, functions as a creation suite where players can build custom characters, enemies, and missions. Materials for use in Deception Studio are earned through Quest Mode, linking the two modes together. The combination of trap-based tactical gameplay and user-generated content gives the title a sandbox dimension alongside its structured campaign.
