The Dark Below is the first downloadable expansion for Bungie's 2014 shooter-RPG Destiny, released for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Set largely beneath the surface of the Moon, the content centers on a dormant enemy awakening within the Hellmouth and threatening to unleash its forces against Earth. Players work through new story missions and quests to confront this threat while accumulating additional weapons, armor, and gear. Beyond the campaign material, the expansion adds a new Strike, a Raid, and three competitive multiplayer maps, broadening both the cooperative and player-versus-player sides of the base game. The expansion functions as an extension of the existing Destiny framework rather than a standalone release, building on its progression systems and combat mechanics.
