Drakan: The Ancients' Gates is an action RPG developed by Surreal Software, released in 2002 exclusively for PlayStation 2. The game follows dragon rider Rynn, who returns to her village to find it razed and its people slaughtered. Guided by her dragon companion Arokh toward the city of Surdana, she learns that a race of three-faced creatures known as the Desert Lords have been waging war against humanity. Defeating them requires an alliance with dragons, but the gateway to their world has been sealed and can only be reopened by a dragon of the Elder Breed. Players control both characters across the course of the adventure: Arokh handles aerial combat and confrontations with powerful enemies, while Rynn operates on the ground with deeper RPG mechanics, including experience-based progression and the ability to specialize in melee combat, archery, or magic.
