Duel Masters, developed by Takara and released in 2003 for Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2, is a strategy card game adaptation of the Japanese Duel Masters Trading Card Game. Players take on the role of a kohai, or junior duelist, whose prized card — a gift from a grandfather who is a renowned senior duelist — is stolen by a mysterious figure. The story follows the protagonist across towns and villages in pursuit of the thief and the stolen card. Progress is made by competing in Duel Masters tournaments, with the long-term goal of earning recognition as a professional duelist. The game blends turn-based card game mechanics with a light narrative structure, offering both a reason to travel through the game world and a series of increasingly challenging opponents to face along the way.
