Echochrome II is a puzzle game developed by SCE Japan Studio and released in 2010 for PlayStation 3. A follow-up to the original Echochrome, it shifts the core mechanic from perspective manipulation to light and shadow. Players use the PlayStation Move motion controller alongside the PlayStation Eye camera to rotate levels and direct a light source, altering the shadows cast by objects in the environment. The goal is to guide a character along a path from start to finish by manipulating these shadows, which can interact with one another and with various objects in ways that change how the level is navigated. Different angles and light positions produce different solutions, meaning the same puzzle can be approached in multiple ways depending on how a player perceives the scene. The reliance on spatial reasoning and creative interpretation of shadows gives the game an open-ended quality despite its structured puzzle format.
