Eidolon is an indie adventure game developed by Ice Water Games, released in 2014 for PC and Mac. Set in a far-future version of Western Washington around the year 2400 C.E., it places the player in a hand-sculpted wilderness with minimal guidance and asks them to piece together the fate of a long-vanished civilization. The landscape is populated with wildlife — including both predators and prey — as well as edible plants, and scattered remnants of human culture in the form of journals, sketchbooks, newspapers, zines, brochures, transcripts, blogs, and similar artifacts. More than 150 such documents collectively tell the interconnected stories of dozens of characters across several centuries. The open terrain takes multiple hours to traverse on foot, and a dynamic day/night cycle alongside changing weather shapes the atmosphere throughout. The game's central concerns are history, curiosity, and the passage of time.
