Fimbul is a single-player action-adventure developed by Zaxis Games and released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Set during the brutal winter that precedes Ragnarök in Norse mythology, the game follows an aging berserker journeying to Jötunheim to recover an ancient artifact with the potential to save Midgard. Combat is weapon-based and designed to be approachable while retaining meaningful depth, with the player able to recruit other Vikings as companions against enemies that include massive trolls and the Jotuns, a race of giants predating the gods. The narrative is delivered through in-game comic panels, and a branching timeline system — referred to as the timeline tree — allows players to revisit decision points at any time and pursue alternative paths through the story, giving the player meaningful agency over how events unfold.
