Released in 1987 by Square for the Family Computer and Nintendo Entertainment System, Final Fantasy is the inaugural entry in the long-running Final Fantasy series. The game centers on four Warriors of Light, whose classes and names are chosen by the player at the outset. From there, the party explores a world map connecting towns and dungeons, navigating each area on foot while encountering enemies through random battles and facing designated boss encounters. The class selection system gives players meaningful control over party composition before the adventure begins, lending the experience a degree of strategic customization. Later re-releases, in which the game is sometimes identified as FFI, brought the title to additional Nintendo platforms including the Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS, introducing the foundational RPG to successive generations of players.
The story follows four youths called the Light Warriors, who each carry one of their world's four elemental orbs which have been darkened by the four Elemental Fiends. Together, they quest to defeat these evil forces, restore light to the orbs, and save their world.
