A Wii action-RPG developed by Square Enix Product Development Division 2 and released in 2009, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles – The Crystal Bearers is set approximately one thousand years after the events of the original Crystal Chronicles. The world has been reshaped by the Great War, during which the Yuke Crystal was destroyed and the Yuke Tribe was apparently wiped out, leaving the Lilties as the dominant civilization. Under Lilty rule, society has advanced through mechanical "crystal reactors" while magic itself has been outlawed, and the subjugated Clavats and Selkies largely conform to the new order. Within this setting, rare individuals known as crystal bearers possess abilities that resemble forbidden magic, making them objects of public fear and persecution. The game follows events unfolding in this stratified world, blending RPG progression with adventure elements across a reimagined version of the Crystal Chronicles universe.
