Fracture is a third-person shooter developed by Day 1 Studios and released in 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Set in the year 2161, the game takes place in a divided United States reshaped by the effects of global warming, which has split the country into two rival factions. Players control Jet Brody, a soldier serving the Atlantic Alliance — a nation formed from the former East Coast — as he wages war against the Republic of Pacifica, the opposing power built from the former West Coast. The conflict centers on a confrontation with General Sheridan, a former Alliance commander who now leads Pacifica's forces. The setting and premise frame a military campaign fought across a politically and geographically fractured version of America, with Brody operating as a frontline combatant in what amounts to a second American civil war.
