Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows is a hack-and-slash adventure developed by Midway Games, released in 2005 for Xbox, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 2. The story follows four heroes — warrior, valkyrie, elf, and wizard — who were crucified to a magical tree by an emperor consumed by a desire for their immortality. Centuries later, that emperor, reduced to a ghost and burdened by regret, frees them and tasks them with defeating his six former advisors to atone for his misdeeds. Gameplay centers on battling through large waves of enemies across levels that incorporate light puzzle elements such as finding keys and activating switches. Each character has a distinct combat style, and progression involves spending experience points to improve three core stats, acquiring better gear from chests, and purchasing new moves with gold. The game supports single-player, local cooperative multiplayer for up to four players, and online multiplayer offering the same cooperative experience across separate consoles.
