Gene Troopers is a first-person shooter developed by Cauldron HQ and released in 2005 for Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC. Set in a politically unstable Galactic Empire following a prolonged war, the game centers on a civilian who is forcibly subjected to an experimental genetic transformation program — a process the Empire uses to convert ordinary people into powerful, obedient soldiers. Before the procedure is completed, the protagonist is rescued by rebel forces, though not before his daughter has already been taken by the regime. The narrative follows his subsequent fight alongside the rebellion against the Empire that conscripted him. The genetic transformation mechanic is central to the setting's premise, framing the conflict around forced biological alteration as an instrument of imperial control. The game positions its protagonist as both a victim of and a weapon against the authoritarian system he escaped.
