Ghosts 'n Goblins is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Capcom and released in 1985, originally for arcades before being ported to numerous home systems including the Amiga, Atari ST, DOS, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, and Amstrad CPC. Players control Sir Arthur, an armored knight on a mission to rescue Princess Prin Prin from Satan, the ruler of the Demon World, battling through waves of zombies, ogres, cyclops, dragons, and other enemies along the way. Weapons, bonuses, and replacement armor can be collected throughout each stage. The game is widely regarded as one of the most demanding titles ever made — Arthur can only sustain two hits before losing a life, a per-level time limit applies, and death sends the player back to the stage's start or midpoint. Completing the game requires finishing it twice, as the first ending reveals the entire quest was a trap, forcing a second, harder playthrough to reach the true conclusion.
