Gorf is a fixed shooter developed by Dave Nutting Associates and released in 1981 across multiple platforms, including Arcade, Atari 2600, ColecoVision, Commodore VIC-20, Commodore 64, and Atari Jaguar. The arcade version comprises five distinct stages, each presenting a different style of space combat. The opening stage mirrors Space Invaders, with formations of enemies advancing in familiar fashion. The second stage features a hovering fleet from which individual ships break off and dive toward the player. The third stage, exclusive to the arcade release, follows the pattern of Galaxian. In the fourth stage, enemies emerge from a circular hyperspace portal and attack. The fifth and final stage pits the player against a massive mothership that drops bombs from the top of the screen; defeating it requires landing a shot precisely between its two main sections. Completing all five stages restarts the cycle at an increased difficulty level.
