Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol.1 is a kinetic visual novel developed by Frontwing and released in 2017 for PC and Linux, set within the wider Grisaia franchise but featuring an entirely new story and cast. Character artist Akio Watanabe and writer Ryuta Fujisaki return to craft the narrative, which unfolds at a reconceived Mihama Academy that functions as a specialist training school for operatives working under a government-affiliated organization called SORD (Social Ops, Research & Development). The student roster includes a gunslinger nicknamed "The Rabid Dog," a sniper, a demolitions expert, and a spy, all overseen by their handler Haruto. These young women are repeatedly sent on dangerous, extrajudicial missions in the name of national defense. As a kinetic novel, the game presents a linear narrative without branching routes, focusing entirely on character development and the personal stakes each operative carries into the field.
