Guacamelee! is a Metroidvania-style action platformer developed by Drinkbox Studios and released in 2013 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PC, Mac, and Linux. Set in a mythological Mexican world drawn from traditional culture and folklore, the game casts players as a luchador who fights through a sprawling interconnected world using hand-to-hand combat. Progression follows the classic Metroidvania formula, unlocking new abilities — such as the Rooster Uppercut — that open previously inaccessible areas and reveal secrets. A dimension-switching mechanic allows movement between parallel planes of existence, functioning as both a puzzle-solving tool and a combat technique. The game deliberately blurs the line between fighting and platforming, with many moves serving both purposes. The full campaign supports cooperative same-screen multiplayer throughout. A PC release titled Guacamelee! Gold Edition bundled existing DLC, and a later expanded version, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, added two new areas, an extended story, and a new boss.
