Hammer & Sickle is a turn-based strategy game with role-playing elements developed for PC and released in 2005, built on the engine and setting established by Silent Storm. Set in 1949 during the early tensions of the Cold War, the game follows a Soviet commando whose undercover operation in Allied-occupied Germany goes wrong, leaving him without support, equipment, or identification. Cut off behind enemy lines, the protagonist works to neutralize a rogue faction bent on triggering a third world war between the US and the Soviet Union. Players select from six starting classes — Soldier, Grenadier, Scout, Sniper, Medic, and Engineer — and can recruit additional characters over the course of the campaign. Combat is squad-based and governed by an Action Point system, with physics modeled to include ragdoll animations, bullet ricochet, and destructible environments. The branching narrative responds meaningfully to player decisions, and over 90 weapons and variants are available to find or purchase.
