Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday is a 2005 grand strategy expansion developed by Paradox Development Studio for PC and Mac, building on the base Hearts of Iron II experience while extending its focus into the post-World War II era. The central addition is a hypothetical Cold War scenario in which nuclear conflict erupts between the Soviet Union and the Allied powers, with the game's end date pushed out to 1953 and new technologies introduced to reflect the early Cold War period. The expansion overhauls the intelligence system, giving players a dedicated interface for espionage and sabotage operations, and brings improved AI alongside a built-in scenario editor. Numerous mechanical refinements accompany these headline features, including escort carriers, hospitals for recovering manpower, separate submarine statistics for convoy raiding and conventional naval combat, inter-nation division trading, and automated production management. Additional unit graphics, such as bomber sprites, round out the content.
