Highway Encounter is a strategy-action game developed by Vortex Software and released in 1985 for ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, MSX, and Tatung Einstein. Viewed from a 3D isometric perspective, the game tasks the player with guiding a bomb down a lengthy, straight highway and delivering it to an alien base at the far end across thirty screens. The player controls a Vorton, a robotic unit resembling a Dalek, while four additional Vortons serve simultaneously as extra lives and as the force continuously pushing the bomb forward. Strategic depth comes from the need to advance ahead of the bomb to clear hazards — including alien enemies, explosive mines, and obstructing barrels — while carefully managing where the bomb is left stationary. If all spare Vortons are lost, the player character must push the bomb manually, making careless pathing a potentially decisive mistake.
