Homeworld: Emergence is a real-time strategy game developed by Barking Dog and released in 2000 for PC, originally under the title Homeworld: Cataclysm — a name later changed to avoid conflict with a Blizzard Entertainment trademark. The second entry in the Homeworld series, it began development as an expansion to the original game but was ultimately published as a standalone release due to the extent of its engine modifications and the scope of its single-player content. That campaign spans 17 missions, one more than the original Homeworld, and follows the series' signature approach to space-based fleet command. Players manage and direct ships in three-dimensional space, balancing resource gathering, fleet construction, and tactical combat across a lengthy narrative-driven progression. The game is otherwise identical to its 2000 release, with the subtitle standing as the only meaningful change from the original Cataclysm version.
