Released in 2002 by ITE Media for PC, PlayStation, and mobile devices, Hugo: The Evil Mirror is a platform and arcade game in which the witch Scylla has imprisoned Hugo inside a mirror. The player works to free him across three distinct worlds, each populated by hostile monsters. The primary tool for dealing with enemies is a freeze gun, which converts them into ice blocks that can then be shoved off the edge of a level. Frozen enemies can also be combined with one another to generate power-ups, adding a light puzzle element to the combat. The game balances straightforward platforming with this ice-block mechanic, encouraging players to think about enemy placement before eliminating them. It is part of the long-running Hugo franchise, which originated in interactive television before expanding into dedicated video game releases.
