Hydrophobia is a third-person shooter and adventure game developed by Dark Energy Digital, released in 2010 for Xbox 360. Players control Kate Wilson, an engineer aboard the massive cruise ship Queen of the World, who must survive after a terrorist group seizes the vessel and detonates bombs throughout it. The game's central mechanic revolves around realistically simulated water, which factors prominently into numerous environmental puzzles. In the later portion of the game, Kate acquires kinetic abilities that open up additional puzzle-solving options. A handheld multitool serves dual purposes: hacking security systems through a dedicated mini-game and revealing hidden codes inscribed on walls in invisible ink. Combat relies on a conventional cover system and supports five distinct ammunition types for use against terrorist enemies. Traversal sections involving climbing round out the gameplay alongside the puzzle and combat elements.
